Herd of rampaging elephants destroy houses at Chakrar

A herd of wild elephants once again destroyed four houses at Chakrar village of Karanjia range of Wetsren Karanjia range and forest village Chada of Bajag forest range on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.
This herd includes two baby elephants and four adult elephants. They have entered district recently through Kanha National Park area. This elephant family is on rampage mode and is attacking houses. They are targeting houses in villages in search of food.
The elephants arrived in compartment no 563 (B) forest village Chada. They uprooted trees of bamboos and jackfruit. Then they arrived at Chakrar village and attacked four houses in search of food. In one of the these four houses, one flour mill was being run. These elephants broke the roof and walls of the houses.
Now this elephant herd had moved to compartment no. 553 of Bajag range. The Forest Department was informed about the rampage. The team visited the spot to take assessment of the damage. Villagers are irked with the Forest Department as they are living under continuous fear with movement of wild elephants in the area. The movement of wildlife in Bajag and Karanjia forest range adjoining Ackanmaar corridor is frequent and hence Ranger, Karanjia range Pushpa Singh, Western Karanjia Range Incharge Prachi Mishra, Deputy Ranger Ajay Mukund Pol, are monitoring the situation and supervising the relief works.
