REPRESENTING Defence Accounts Sports Control Board (DASCB), city’s Pradeep Tiwari, currently posted at Jt CDA (Air Force), Vayusena Nagar, Nagpur, won National Amateur Chess Championship that concluded at Jaipur on Saturday.
There were total 432 participants from 28 States and 2 Union Territories. Total 9 rounds were played. Tiwari scored 7.5 points.
In the nine rounds, Tiwari played Nimay Agrawal of Haryana, Kishore Kumar Jagnathan of Tamil Nadu, Vikash Nishad of UP, Vivek Sharma of Bihar, Anup Shankar R of Tamil Nadu, Apoorv Kamble of Karnataka, Devansh Shah of Maharashtra, Vaz Ethan of Goa and in the final he locked horns with Shubhi Gupta of UP. Tiwari won a trophy plus cash prize of Rs 16,000.
The title win has earned him a berth in Indian team that will participate in World Amateur Chess Championship to be held at Malta from October 20-30, 2022.
