ADDITIONAL Sessions Judge M S Azmi on Thursday sentenced Munna Mohan Mahato (50) and his two sons Ramu alias Chunni (26) and Chetan (24) to life imprisonment after the charges of killing their neighbour Ashok Santaram Naharkar (40) in Pandhrabodi were subtantiated against them.
The convicts residing at Trust Layout, near Sudarshan Mandir, Pandhrabodi often used to quarrel with their neighbour Ashok Naharkar and his family members over petty issues. Chetan and one of the members of Naharkar family earlier allegedly used to accept bets on pigeon flying. The dispute arose between the Mahatos and Naharkars over financial transactions. Around 10 pm on October 4, 2020, Ashok Naharkar’s 11-year-old nephew played some mischief that irked Munna Mahato. Munna’s sons Ramu and Chetan also came out of the house on seeing their father shouting at the Naharkars. Munna and his sons then started abusing their neighbours
using filthy words. Ashok’s younger brother
Dinesh tried to settle the matter but they thrashed him. Munna and his sons then stormed into the Naharkars’ house after breaking the door. When Ashok tried to prevent them from creating
ruckus, Munna and Chetan caught him. Ramu then took out a knife and stabbed Ashok repeatedly killing him in the drawing room of his house.
After recording the statement of Dinesh Naharkar (33), younger brother of the deceased, Ambazari Police registered a case under Sections 302 (Murder), 449 (House-trespass in order to commit
offence punishable with death), 394 (Voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery), 323(Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Munna, his sons Ramu and Chetan.
