Amit Kowe suicide case: Cops book 10, including former Manager of WCL

DHANTOLI Police, on Friday, booked 10 persons, including a woman and former Manager of Western Coalfields Limited (WCL), for allegedly abetting social worker Amit Kowe to commit suicide. The accused have been identified as Rasheed Alam (50), Rahul Singh (45), both residents of Sealdah, DRM office, Raja Bazar, Kolkata, West Bengal; Rajendra Tiwari (50), a resident of Ajni; Shilpa Salpatti (43), a resident near Manewada Road, Ajni; former Manager of WCL Rakesh Khurana (50), a resident of B- 501, Sri Sri Manohar Apartments, Anand Sai Marg, Clarke Town, Kadbi Chowk; Deepak Sattel (45), Maruti alias Navva Walke (45), a resident of Bhande Plot, Umrer Road; Hemant Nagpure (45), a resident of Pratap Nagar; Nikhil Koche, a resident of Manish Nagar, Besa, and one Gopal Tuper (45). At around 3 pm on January 14, 2022, ‘Adivasi Sewak’ Amit Maroti Kowe (50), a resident of House No 845, Borgaon Basti, consumed some poisonous drug near Tilak Patrakar Bhavan. Kowe was rushed to Government Medical College & Hospital (GMC&H) in an unconscious state.
 
On January 17, 2022, Kowe breathed his last during treatment. Dhantoli Police, initially, had registered a case under Section 174 of the Code of Crimimal Procedure and started the probe. During investigations, police stumbled upon an electronic evidence and a suicide note left by Kowe in which he stated that the accused had taken Rs 1.30 crore from his son Chandan (31) and several other job aspirants by promising regular employment in WCL and Railways. The accused had taken the amount through Kowe on behalf of the job-seekers.
 
To gain confidence, the accused had taken some of the job aspirants from whom they had taken the money to Kolkata in the name of medical examination and issued them a fake letters for training in the department. As the accused failed to provide any employment to the job aspirants, Kowe started demanding them to return the money to the job aspirants. As the accused allegedly threatened Kowe to implicate him in a false case and refused to return the money, he ended his life. Finally, cops registered a case under Sections 306 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code against the accused persons.
