In an unfortunate incident, a full-grown male tiger ‘T-1’ that was roaming in Lakhandur Range for a few months was found dead near the railway track between Vadegaon-Wadsa route on Saturday morning. According to Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) Dada Raut, around 9.30 am on Saturday, they got information from ARM Gupta that the carcass of tiger was found near the railway track near stone no 1093/6-7 on Vadegaon -Wadsa route. The area comes under Compartment No 260 of Korambhi Beat in Arjuni Morgaon Forest Range.

There were injury marks on face, legs and tail. Importantly, all the body parts were found intact and it is suspected that the tiger might have died after being hit by a train. While speaking to ‘The Hitavada’, Honorary Wildlife Warden Mukund Dhurwe informed that probably the incident might have happened in the intervening night of Friday and Saturday by a train moving towards Wadsa and the matter came to fore on Saturday morning. After getting information, Deputy Conservator of Forest Kulraj Singh, ACF Dada Raut, RFO Shravan Khobragade along with Honourary Wildlife Warden Dhurwe, Rapid Response Team from Navegaon rushed to the spot. Veterinarians from Sadak Arjuni performed the spot panchnama. Chetan Jasani and Shashank Ladekar were present on the spot. The carcass of the tiger was consigned to flames in the evening as per the SOPs of National Tiger Conservation Authority.
