Light rains all over Nagpur on Monday evening gave a signal of arrival of southwest monsoon in next few days in the region. Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had already predicted that southwest monsoon in Vidarbha was likely to arrive till June 15 and in Nagpur it would reach till June 18.
The Weather Department has also predicted light to moderate rains in city on June 14, 15 and again on June 17-18. Due to cloudy weather and thunderstorm activities in Nagpur in last couple of days, the maximum temperature decreased by 4-6 degrees Celsius. However, on Monday, the maximum temperature once again crossed 40 degrees mark but the 30 minutes rain reduced the minimum temperature. Increase in relative humidity was recorded after the rains on Monday evening.
The southwest monsoon has already covered Mumbai and Marathwada a couple of days ago. Normally, 3-4 days after its arrival in Mumbai, monsoon enters Vidarbha and Nagpur. It was an extended summer this year in the country as the scorching summer has started in March and it is still raising discomfort for everyone in the mid of June.
Bramhapuri recorded the highest maximum temperature with 41.2 degrees Celsius on Monday. Gondia (40.0 degrees Celsius), Nagpur (40.6 degrees Celsius) and Wardha (40.0 degrees Celsius) also recorded maximum temperature above 40 degrees. Akola (37.9 degrees Celsius), Amravati (38.0 degrees Celsius), Buldhana (35.2 degrees Celsius), Chandrapur (39.2 degrees Celsius), Gadchiroli (38.4 degrees Celsius), Washim (38.5 degrees Celsius) and Yavatmal (38.5 degrees Celsius) recorded the minimums below 40 degrees on Monday.
