BSP’s contribution in Janjgir-Champa rescue operation

A child was rescued from a borewell in Phirhid village of Janjgir-Champa district. The child fell into the borewell on June 10 at 4 pm and was rescued after continuous efforts lasting 102 hours on June 14 midnight hours. A green corridor was made till Bilaspur after rescuing the child and he was shifted immediately to Apollo hospital for treatment. This is one of the longest rescue operations conducted in the country. NDRF, SDRF and Indian Army worked on a war footing and successfully rescued Rahul and saved his life. The challenges came up throughout the rescue operation were faced by the team and it finally succeeded in rescuing the child. The child could be reached 64 feet below after digging a tunnel.
 
Janjgir-Champa District Administration also contacted SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) for help on June 13. Taking immediate action, BSP management sent two teams from Hirri for the operation. Somnath Kumar Singh, DGM (Mines); Pradeep Kumar, Assistant Manager (Mining); Sonab Pandey, Senior Manager (Mechanical); Milind Sahare, AGM (Mining); Lokesh Kumar, Manager (Mechanical); Raju, Manager (Mechanical); Shiv Singh and Pardesi were part of the team. The structural steel and expansion chemical mortar were ensured by the team as per the need of the rescue operation. They actively took part in the rescue operation for 36 hours and contributed in making the operation successful. The District Administration of Janjgir-Champa thanked BSP’s team and stated that SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant has displayed its social responsibility by supporting us in the rescue operation.
