THREE railway engines were derailed in the mishap that occurred at railway yard of South Eastern Central Railway (SECR) in Durg during Sunday early hours. With necessary mechanical and engineering works the locomotives were re-railed by afternoon hours. However, no one was injured in the mishap.
According to the information, at about 2:30 am on Sunday, the three railway engines (locomotives) were pulled to Pit Lines with coupling when it derailed near filling point at the railway yard of SECR in Durg. In the mishap few OHE poles were also damaged. On information the mechanical and engineering staffers were summoned and with the due repair and replacement of damaged tracks the derailed locomotives were re-railed by 4 pm in the afternoon.
As per the sources the mishap appeared to be the outcome of human error as the driver failed to apply brakes timely and the locomotives were pulled beyond the certain point, leading to derailment. However the railway authorities asserted that the facts of the mishap would be asserted after thorough probe.
Saket Ranjan, Chief Public Relation Officer (CPRO) Bilaspur Railway Zone of SECR informed that after the mishap with necessary engineering and mechanical works the three derailed locomotives were re-railed by afternoon, leading to smooth maintenance works in the yard areas.
The locomotives were being pulled to Pit Lines for regular maintenance works when the mishap occurred midway.
The facts of the mishap will finally be established after thorough probe.
