THE much awaited short spell of showers in Raipur and across State on Sunday gave respite from the prevailing hot and humid conditions. In fact, Meteorological Center, Raipur has warned spurge of rainfall that would continue for another 96 hours from June 20 is expected to delight the agrarian section of State.
So far, State has received 44.7mm rainfall against the normal of 80.6mm for the current rainy season.
If weathermen are to be believed, the rainfall received till date is below normal, which is 55 per cent recorded between June 1 to 19. The unabated rains lashing the state for last 36 hours and expected for next 96 hours would exceed the normal level.
Capital Raipur recorded the highest rainfall of 11.8mm rainfall during the afternoon hours on Sunday. As per records, the capital city has recorded 20.7mm rainfall against the normal of 70mm from June 1 to 19, deficient by 71 percent in the current rainy season.
The overall MeT rainfall figures across the state statd of highest of 11mm rains was recorded at Pendra Road followed by Kothghora recording 60mm, Pithora, Pamgarh and Shivrinarayan – 50mm, Kusmi, Bilha and Baloda Bazar – 40mm, Balod, Pendra, Bilspur, Shakti, Pali, Kota, Bemetara, Saza, Korba, Champa and Pratappur – 30mm, Janjgir, Usur, Khairagarh, Jaijaipur, Tamnar, Janakpur, Berla, Kartala, Palari, Malkharoda, Bhaiyyathan, Dongargarh, Thankhamaria, Bhatapara, Sonhat, Wadrafnagar, Raigarh, Tilda, Kasdol, Ramanujganj, Manendragarh, Baikunthpur, Baghbahra, Odgi and Kharsia – 20mm while below 20mm rainfall was recorded at many places across the state on Sunday. The Met Centre has warned of heavy rainfall and thunderstorm expected at isolated places over the state from June 20 to 23. Meanwhile, fairly widespread rainfall is expected on June 20 and 21 while widespread rainfall is lily on June 22 and 23 in the state. Though the maximum and minimum temperature has already slipped below normal across State on Sunday, a weatherman has indicated of no change in existing maximum temperature over the state during next four days. However, thunderstorm accompanied with light to medium rainfall is expected at many places in the state on June 20. The sky will be partly cloudy with chances of thunderstorm along with light rainfall in the evening or night hours in Raipur on Monday
