As polling dates for Panchayat and Urban local body elections-2022 in the State are approaching, some interesting facts are emerging during the process like selection of candidates by various parties and during the filing of nomination papers:
In Singrauli district, three of wives of Sukhram Singh Gond, sitting Panchayat Secretary of Kathadaha village, have filed nominations. Interestingly, his first wife and third have come face-to-face and will take on each other for the post of Sarpanch. Second wife have filed nomination for Janpad member. To which members of opposition camp filed a complaint and raised objections. A show cause notice has been issued to him.
In another case, in Noorganj village of Raisen district, a large number of people (around 40 per cent ) are evading from participating in the Panchayat elections.
Although there is no known customary, a large number of male members of the village, settled at their in-laws home. And now they are not in a position to summon up courage to contest elections against their own in-laws or their fellow villagers. Most of them say how come they rule a village that has given them shelter, food and above all domesticated daughters who take care of them.
About 30 years ago, grooms started settling at their in-laws’ in this village.Of the total 4000 approximate population, a total 2500 are eligible voters. Of them, 1000 are sons-in-law and their family members too. There are 12 candidates in the fray for the post of Sarpanch, but no ‘son-in-law’ dare contesting for the prime position of the village.
From ward 56 of Indore Municipal Corporation, Swati Kashid was declared as candidate for corporator. Now her name has been taken back. Following zero-tolerance policy, Madhya Pradesh BJP President VD Sharma said ‘after the issue of candidate’s family background being criminal, her name was withdrawn following setting an example in politics.
