60.4 mm rainfall in city

Monday brought the much-awaited relief for Nagpurians as first widespread downpour of this monsoon lashed the city. Within three-and-a-half hours on Monday evening, the city received 60.4 mm rainfall. Due to heavy downpour, some areas also witnessed waterlogging.
Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted light to moderate rainfall at many places of Vidarbha on Monday. Nagpur recorded downpour on Monday as predicted. The rainfall also brought down maximum temperature to 33.1 degrees Celsius, and the minimum temperature was 25.4 degrees. As a result, Nagpurians finally got much-needed relief from summer heat. The rainfall on Monday was accompanied with lightning.
Apart from waterlogging, some areas reported power supply interruption too, for some time. Due to waterlogging, traffic jam was reported at some locations till late night. The Gorakshan Temple end of Gowari Shaheed Flyover saw waterlogging.
After declaration of South-West Monsoon in Vidarbha, it was the first time Nagpur experienced widespread rainfall. Till June 16, cloudy weather gave some respite from summer heat but the relative humidity all over Vidarbha was on a
higher side.
Some patchy rains were also observed at many places in the city in last few days but every one was waiting for a downpour.
On Monday, Wardha recorded the highest maximum temperature of 36 degrees Celsius, followed by Yavatmal (35.5 degrees Celsius) and Chandrapur (35 degrees Celsius). Other places like Akola (33.9 degrees Celsius), Amravati (33.8 degrees Celsius), Buldhana (31 degrees Celsius), Gadchiroli (31.4 degrees Celsius), Gondia (30 degrees Celsius), and Nagpur (33.1 degrees Celsius) recorded the maximum temperature below 34 degrees Celsius.
The minimum temperature all over Vidarbha also reduced as most of the places recorded the minimums below 24 degrees Celsius. Gondia recorded the highest (97 per cent) relative humidity whereas Akola (73 per cent), Amravati (60 per cent), Buldhana (75 per cent), Chandrapur (54 per cent), Gadchiroli (71 per cent), Nagpur (67 per cent), and Wardha (52 per cent) recorded humidity above 50 per cent on Monday.
As per the IMD, more spells of rainfall will be observed in next three/four days in Vidarbha.
