Ahead of the Rajya Sabha polls, at least 28 Congress MLAs from Haryana reached Raipur on Thursday evening. The Haryana Congress moved all its MLAs to Raipur to prevent any horse-trading attempts by opposition parties.
The Congress MLAs from Haryana reached Delhi
Airport by a bus. Meanwhile, three Congress MLAs from Haryana were found absent in the bus.
Later, these Congress MLAs and some office-bearers of Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee reached Raipur by a special plane. These MLAs were taken to Mayfair Lake Resort, Nava Raipur in
Atal Nagar from the Raipur Airport by a bus amid tight security arrangementsand security at the hotel has also been tightened. The Congress party sources claimed that these MLAs will stay in Raipur till June 9 and they would leave Raipur for Haryana on June 10.
It may be mentioned that the elections to the Rajya Sabha seat are slated for June 10. Congress leader Ajay Maken has been nominated by the Congress party for the Rajya Sabha seat in Haryana. The Haryana Congress had called a meeting on Thursday ahead of moving the MLAs to a safe place to avoid the MLAs falling prey to cross voting attempts before the Rajya Sabha polls.
A total of three candidates have filed nominations for the two posts of Rajya Sabha elections in Haryana. After the filing of the nomination by media baron Kartikeya Sharma, who is an Independent candidate and former Union Minister Vinod Sharma’s son, the fight for the Rajya Sabha seat in Haryana has taken a new turn.
The BJP fielded Krishan Lal Panwar while Congress has nominated Ajay Maken. The biennial elections to Haryana assembly are taking place as BJP-supported Independent MP Subhash Chandra and BJP leader Dushyant Sharma’s terms expire in July 2022. Sharma is backed by BJP’s 10 MLAs and is also likely to get BJP’s support, as well as several independent MLAs.
In the 90-seat Haryana assembly, the Congress candidate need 30 seats to win while the BJP nominee requires the support of 31 MLAs. Both the contestants have the required numbers, however, after the entry of independent candidate Kartikeya Sharma, the fight has become interesting.
