BOTH Congress Rajya Sabha candidates - namely Rajeev Shukla and Ranjeet Ranjan have been elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha from Chhattisgarh. Speaking to ‘The Hitavada’, Returning Officer and Secretary of Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Dinesh Sharma confirmed that Congress Rajya Sabha candidates - namely Rajeev Shukla and Ranjeet Ranjan were elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha. Ranjeet Ranjan accompanied by Agriculture Minister Ravindra Choubey, MLAs Kuldeep Juneja and Vikas Upadhyay reached Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly on Friday after she was elected declared. Ranjeet Ranjan received the certificate from Returning Officer Dinesh Sharma. Sudhir Shukla received the certificate from Returning Officer Dinesh Sharma on behalf of Rajeev Shukla. The last date of withdrawal of candidature was on Friday. After scrutiny of nominations, only two candidates were in fray for two posts of Rajya Sabha elections and both candidates have been declared elected unopposed. Former Cabinet Minister and Janta Congress Chhattisgarh (Jogi) candidate Haridas Bhardwaj’s nomination was rejected for Rajya Sabha election because only three proposers signed on his nomination paper. Rajeev Shukla, hailing from Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, is an Indian politician, former journalist, political commentator and the former chairman of Indian Premier League. Ranjeet Ranjan, who is the wife of former Lok Sabha Member Pappu Yadav, was two times member of the Lok Sabha from Bihar. The term of office of Rajya Sabha members from Chhattisgarh Chhaya Verma from Congress and Ramvichar Netam from BJP is due to expire upon their retirement on June 29. The tenure of Rajya Sabha Members K T S Tulsi and Phulodevi Netam, both come from the Congress party, will expire on April 9, 2026 while BJP Rajya Sabha Member Saroj Pandey’s tenure will end on April 2, 2024. There are five Rajya Sabha seats from Chhattisgarh, in which there are four Congress Rajya Sabha members and one member from BJP.
