A sudden surge in COVID-19 cases is witnessed in Nagpur district as on Tuesday 25 people got infected by the virus. It maybe noted that on Monday, the district had registered only two cases. The sudden rise in positive cases led to increase in active cases from 32 to 53. Of the 25 cases, 15 alone was reported in city while 7 persons tested positive in Nagpur rural. Three persons who tested positive for the virus are not the residents of district. With these the cumulative figure reads 5,77,902. Of the cumulative number, 9,972 people are from outside district.
Fortunately, as yet there are no reports of anyone succumbing to the virus nor has anybody been hospitalised in district.
Five persons recovered from coronavirus taking the cumulative recovery figure to 5,67,511. The recovery rate now stands at 98.21%.
The single-day testing in district today was 587. Of these, Nagpur rural reported 149 testing while in city 438 persons underwent testing. This has taken the cumulative testing figure to 54,23,945.
On Monday, Dr Nitin Raut, Guardian Minister, while talking to mediapersons said that testing and tracing would be increased in the wake of rising cases. He said that, district administration was contemplating to re-impose COVID-19 rules, like making face mask mandatory. According to the administration, in coming week, a decision would be taken to impose fine on those not using masks. The Minister also expressed concern about people were taking unnecessary liberty and attributed the increase in cases to the travellers coming from Delhi. He directed administration to start strict checking, testing and tracing at the airport.
According to most medical experts the fourth wave is unlikely because of vaccination on large scale, so people should not panic due to spike in cases. Unlike the second wave, this time the severity of virus will not be as threatening due to protection of vaccine.
