Raipur,
If things go right, Chhattisgarh will witness a mega professional boxing event, the first ever international professional boxing of the state, in the first week of August this year.
International Professional Boxer and India’s first Olympian boxer Vijender Singh will be the centre of attraction of this boxing event likely to be organised at Indoor Stadium in Raipur.
Answering to the queries of media persons on the sideline of a felicitation programme organised by the Chhattisgarh Olympic Association at Hotel Grand Imperia in Raipur on Wednesday, the Padma Shri award recipient Olympic Bronze medalist Vijender said that he had a fruitful discussion with the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Bhupesh Baghel regarding the professional boxing. The Chief Minister expressed his consent on his proposal and therefore he would like to express his gratitude to him.
“I also discussed with the Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel about a Boxing Academy to groom the raw talents of Chhattisgarh. Both the professional boxing event and academy will help Chhattisgarh to the next level from where they can expect medals in Olympics and other international tournaments,” said Vijender.
Today, there is competition between districts of Haryana as far as international medals, Olympic medals in particular, are concerned. Such an atmosphere should be developed in Chhattisgarh. Vijender also said that he would pass his talents and skill on the upcoming boxers and prepare them for Olympic medals. A total of five boxers, including boxers from abroad and India, will fight in the professional boxing, said Vijender while talking to The Hitavada.
When asked about the shifting of Haryana MLAs to Raipur in fear of cross voting in Rajya Sabha elections slated for June 10, Vijender, who is associated with Congress, refused to comment on it and referred the question to the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh.
When repeatedly queried stating that he is also a Congress leader and he can respond, Vijender said that he will respond only when he becomes Chief Minister.
Vijender was honoured by the CGOA by presenting memento and herbal products manufactured in the state. Present on the occasion were CGOA General Secretary Gurucharan Singh Hora, MLA Devendra Yadav and senior journalist Himanshu Dwivedi.
