MASQUERADING as an Army officer, a cyber crook siphoned of Rs two lakh from the bank accounts of well-known psychiatrist Dr Sudhir Bhave and his ophthalmologist wife Dr Shubhangi Bhave by luring the latter into holding an eye check-up camp for jawans.
Dr Shubhangi Bhave (63), who runs Drishti Eye Clinic on 5th Floor at Midas Heights, Central Bazar Road, Ramdaspeth, in her complaint to the police stated that she received a call on her mobile phone from Cell No 9861865982 at around 5.45 pm on June 6. At that time, she was in her house at Plot No 7, New Ambazari Layout. Introducing himself as Shrikant Sharma, the caller told her that he was an Army officer and wanted to organise an eye check-up camp for 400 jawans. He asked her about her fees for organising the eye-care camp. She told him to call after some time as she was busy. However, he again contacted her two-three times discussing the camp for soldiers. After gaining her confidence, he made a video call and gave her a 16-digit number. He then sent a link and asked her to click on it. When she clicked on the link, Rs 50,000 were transferred twice from her husband Dr Sudhir Bhave’s account.
Similarly, the fraudster also transferred Rs one lakh from her account.
Later, she realised that she and her husband were conned by an online fraudster.
On the basis of Dr Shubhangi Bhave’s complaint, Bajaj
Nagar Police registered a case under Sections 420 of the Indian Penal Code, read with Section 66 of Information Technology
