THE Indian divyang cricket team, comprising city’s Vinay Yadav and Akola’s Nazir Sheikh, defeated Nepal 2-1 in three-match Twenty Series for the Lifebuoy Cup. The matches were held at Mulpani International Cricket Stadium in Kathmandu, Nepal.
In the first match, electing to bat first India made 117 in 20 overs while the hosts could manage only 90 going down by 27 runs. The Indian batters put up an improved show the next day to score 145-3 in the stipulated overs. Bowlers complemented the batsmen well and dismissed the opponents for a paltry 68 in just 14 overs for an unassailable 2-0 lead. In the inconsequential third match, Indian again batted first but this time they could put on just 90 in 18.2 overs. The hosts romped home scoring 91 on third ball of the 20th over for a consolation win.
The team was accorded a warm welcome at Nagpur Railway station upon their arrival in the city, informs Uttam Mishra, President, The Maharashtra State Cricket Association for Disabled.
Sachin Thombre, Anil Kotangle, Milind Ghormade, Anil Sawant, Nutan Umredkar, Adv Pawan Sahare, Satish Bawne, Girish Nagbhidkar, Shailesh Wasnik, Ajay Bhute, Matin Beg and others welcomed the team.
Maharashtra players Yadav and Sheikh were rewarded with cricket kits at the hands of Vidarbha Cricket Association President Adwait Manohar and Secretary Hemant Gandhi. The duo was congratulated by Sharad Padhye, Vijay Munishwar, Shekhar Patil, Central Railway DRM Richa Khare, Central Railway Sports Secretary, officers, Ruby Cricket Club and others.
