IN A major respite to CBSE schools, the District Sports Council has decided to bring the sports competition entry fees structure at par with State board schools.
Till now, the CBSE schools had to shell out extra competition entry fees for participation in sports events organised by the District Sports Office.
During a recently held meeting of the District Sports Council and District Sports Office, it was decided to reduce the sports competition fees of CBSE schools and bring it at par with State Board Schools.
District Sports Officer Pallavi Dhatrak said that she had received recommendations and request letters from various CBSE schools to charge the fees at par with other State Board schools.
“They termed the double competition entry fees being charged by CBSE schools as illogical and requested to charge the same as State board schools are paying. I think there was no logic in charging extra fees from CBSE schools.
The matter was put forth in the meeting with Vimala R who is District Collector and Chairman of District Sports Council and it was decided to reduce the fees for CBSE schools,” Dhatrak told ‘The Hitavada.’ From this season, the fees for both State and CBSE Boards will be the same.
“From now onwards, the fee for CBSE schools for team sport will be Rs 50, same what State Board schools used to pay. Similarly, in individual sport, the CBSE schools will have to pay Rs 50 per player while for football, hockey it will be Rs 250 per team,” informed Dhatrak.
In July 2016, the District Sports Council had decided to charge an additional entry fee from CBSE schools. The decision was taken as the grant from the State Government to conduct sports events was not sufficient.
When asked whether DSO would be able to manage as the grant from government will remain the same, Dhatrak said, “that is the reason we have asked Nagpur Municipal Corporation to conduct NMC level Sports meets. It would be difficult for us to conduct all the events financially. Everywhere in the country, municipal corporations conduct city level sports competitions while the district level meets are organised by the district sports offices.”
The issue is yet to be resolved and DSO is planning to write a letter to the State Sports Commissioner.
“I will be writing a letter to Omprakash Bakoria, Sports Commissioner, Maharashtra at Department of Youth, Sports and Services and will seek his help,” said Dhatrak.
Meanwhile, the Subroto Cup football tournament, which was supposed to begin from Thursday, has been postponed by two days due to heavy rains that lashed the city for a couple of days. The tournament will begin, most probably, from Friday at Divisional Sports Complex in Mankapur.
