Raising strong objection over non-supportive behaviour of management of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College and Hospital, Junior Doctor Association (JuDA) staged protest in front of Dean’s office on Wednesday.
The junior doctors chanted slogans against Medical administration for not making any efforts to prevent police to enter Boys Hostel and made arrest of medical students following heated argument with JMC staff a few days back.
Handing over a memorandum to Dean, Dr Gita Guin, the JuDA questioned about the reasons behind the silent and un-supportive attitude of the administration during entire incident.
It may be mentioned that the hostellers got involved in heater argument with JMC staff who came to spray pesticide to prevent mosquito-borne diseases. Soon the argument turned aggressive and both the hostellers allegedly physically thrashed the employees with sticks and rods. The employees were hospitalized for treatment and the JMC Employees Union registered FIR against the students at Garha police station. Police even arrested few students. According to JuDA, the Medical administration had not made any step to protect the students.
Responding to the queries, Dean, Dr. Guin tried to make the students realize their fault of physically assaulting the on-duty employees. “Though the medical students are enrolled for higher institute, but still their childish behaviour is continued.
Hence being their guardian, I can only offer my apology with folded hands”, told the Dean.
According to Dr. Pankaj Singh from JuDA, without any evidence, police arrested four medical students and the administration kept mum on the incident. Police forcefully took students’ signature on the arrest memo and kept them in police custody during night hours.
The College Dean and Hostel Superintendent both were well-awared about the developments, still they avoided to take initiative to question police action against the students.
