A herd of six wild elephants including one baby elephants ventured into the forest of West Karanjia Forest range once again on Wednesday night.
This herd moved into the forest of Dindori from Chhattisgarh neighbouring state Achanakmaar corridor. This herd did not move silently rather it entered into forest village Chauradadar in compartement no 792 (B) and stormed into house of Mahendra, son of Patiram and Budhram, son of Devan Baiga. The elephants smashed the entire household articles and ate the foodgrain stored in the houses. Then his herd moved to the other part of the forest.
In the morning, a forest team reached the spot on receiving the information. They took stock of the damage caused to house, articles and others in the houses of the villagers and then started the formalities for payment of the compensation.
Forest officers informed that movement of this herd of elephants was seen in the Chauradadar area and then it moved into forest of Sonteerath which is in border of Chhattisgarh State. Under guidance of Range Officer Pushpa Singh, team including Deputy Ranger Dilip Pathak, Ishwar Singh Paraste is monitoring the movement of the herd. This herd has earlier also strolled in this area hence is aware of the area. Forest teams is assuming that this herd in liking this forest and hence coming again. This herd during last movements into forest area of Karanjia and other places, stormed into the residential areas and damaged houses also. Hence, the forest team is keeping a strict vigil.
Range Officer Pushpa Singh and her team had done public announcement in all the surrounding villages about movement of herd of elephants and asked villagers to take due precautions and not panic. To keep elephants away from the residential area, fire crackers, torchlight and high amplifying sound instruments are being played also by forest team and villagers.
