The district has been witnessing incessant rainfall since the last two days and hence water level in Narmada river is rising. Due to heavy rainfall in the hilly areas of the district, the tributaries of Narmada river flowing from these area are flooded and water level in Narmada river is rising to alarming level.
The water level in Chakrar and Kharmer rivers is increasing with each passing hours. In Narmada river also, water level has risen up to five feet.
Due to incessant rainfall in Bajag area, water level in Bijakhand, Charkrar and others rivulets has risen and hence culverts and bridges constructed over these rivulets are flooded. Traffic remained halted for hours on road from Bajag to Gorakhpur due to flooded culverts. In view of the rising water level in the rivers, administration has deployed divers in all the important banks, bridges. Public announcements is being done to general public for not crossing the overflowing bridges, culvert.
Till Friday, district recorded more than 211 mm rainfall. Superintendent, Land Records has informed that so far 397 mm rainfall in Dindori, 280 mm in Samnapur, 360 in Bajag, 414 mm in Karanjia, 334 mm in Shahpura, 226 mm in Mehendwani, has been registered. With heavy rainfall after a long dry spell , sowing operations of Kharif crops has picked up. Farmers are planting plants of paddy. This year Agriculture departments is laying emphasis on more Kodon Kutki production. So far in 20,000 hectare area Kodon Kutki has been sown and target is to sow Kodon Kutki in 39,000 hectare area.
