Kargil martyrs remembered at Yudh Smarak

On the occasion of the 23rd Kargil Vijay Diwas, a solemn wreath-laying ceremony was conducted at Yudh Smarak, Jabalpur Cantonment on Tuesday, to commemorate the victory of the Indian Armed Forces and to pay tributes to the martyrs.
During the ceremony, wreaths were laid by Lieutenant General MK Das, PVSM,, SM, VSM, General Officer Commanding, Madhya Bharat Area, Brigadier Rahul Anil Gohad, Station Commander, Jabalpur Military Station and Subedar Major (Honorary Lieutenant) Irshad Khan, Senior Most Junior Commissioned Officer of the Jabalpur Military Station.
It may be mentioned that the Kargil Vijay Diwas is commemorated on July 26 every year as reminder of the gallantry and valour of a battle fought in the most inhospitable terrain in the world in the area of Kargil-Drass Sector of Ladakh.
On this day in 1999, the Kargil War formally came to an end, with Indian soldiers successfully recapturing mountain heights that had been seized by Pakistani intruders. The Kargil War, also referred as Operation Vijay, was fought at an altitude of approximately 16,000 feet, wherein 1,042 Pakistani soldiers were killed and 527 Indian soldiers made sacrifice for the nation.
