An attempt of ATM robbery was foiled by alert residents in Saunsar on Wednesday. Thieves tried to uproot Yes Bank ATM situated on Nagpur road in Saunsar city and tried to take it on a Bolero but due to the noise, people residing near the ATM came out.
On seeing the thieves trying to steal the ATM machine in their four-wheeler, they started shouting. Hearing people raising an alarm, the thieves abandoned the ATM in the middle of the road at night and fled. According to Thana In-charge, Saunsar, Raghunath Khatarkar, the incident took place at around 2:50 pm, when three to four people took a vehicle and uprooted an ATM of Yes Bank having lakhs. They then tried to put it in a vehicle. As the residents felt some accident has taken place they came out of their houses.
On seeing the thieves they raised an alarm. Fearing public wrath, the thieves threw the ATM on the road, carrying around Rs 7 lakh, and fled the spot. The company which fills the money in this ATM machine would be able to tell that how much amount was present in the ATM.
Police rushed to the spot and ordered blockade immediately and also sent their teams from place to place, while Dog Squad from the district and the team came for investigation. Investigation is in progress as there are many ATMs in the city which remain open during night. There is no security here, due to which thieves easily attempt to loot the ATM.
During search in surrounding area, police gained success in seizing the vehicle used in ATM theft on Chhindwara road near Silewani. Search for absconding thieves is under way.
