TOP seeds and title favourites Nagpur’s Ritika Thaker and Simran Singhi stormed into final of women’s doubles event at the Yonex Sunrise 1st Maharashtra Senior State Selection Badminton Tournament being held at Yashawant Mahavidyalaya Sports Complex premises in Nanded, on Thursday.
In the semis, Ritika-Simran were up against Nagpur pair of Ananya Durugkar and Nehal Gosavi who were no match for the state and national champions. Ritika and Simran made light work of their inexperienced opponents beating them 21-11, 21-7 in straight games to seal a place in the final. In the final to be played on Friday, they face Anagha Karandikar and Yogita Salve.
Earlier, after getting bye in first round, Ritika-Simran outwitted Mrunmayee Deshpande and Prerna Alvekar 21-12,
21-17. City’s challenge ended in men’s and women’s singles.
Third seed Rohan Gurbani was stunned by Mumbai Sub-Urban’s Aryan Shetty in three games. Rohan took 1-0 lead taking the first game 21-17 but was Aryan bounced back to pocket the next games to move into the quarters. The match lasted 46 minutes.
Nehal Gosavi and Ananya Durugkar also lost their quarter-finals on Thursday.
Pune’s Shruti Mundada beat Nehal 21-14, 21-10 while seed Vaidehi Choudhari of Nashik defeated Ananya 21-11, 21-11.
