Taking a new initiative, Divisional Commissioner B Chandrashekhar has established the constitutional principle ‘Equality before law’, i.e. everyone is equal before the law by changing the nature of his court. This is the first of its kind in the State and perhaps the only example in the country. All types of courts in our country have a specific type of sitting arrangement. It is a civil court, a criminal court or a revenue court, in all courts the presiding officers sit at a higher position.
In this context, Divisional Commissioner Chandrashekhar has changed the entire sitting arrangement of his court, which is a revenue and criminal court under different laws. In his court all the parties sit on the same level, i.e. by removing the high seating of the presiding officer, now they, parties and lawyers etc. sit at the same level. At the same time, there is no need for any party or lawyer to stand and speak in his court. They make their point by sitting on the chairs placed before the Presiding Officer on the same level.
Divisional Commissioner Chandrashekhar said it may be considered a mere symbolic equality, but despite being symbolic, it is important.
