Sheonath River is in spate due to excessive rain as such Mehmara anicut is flowing 12 feet above normal and the river is flowing 2 metres above the danger mark.
In Sheonath River, 62,000 cusecs of water is being released continuously from three barrages. Due to this water has entered thousands of acres of farmland adjoining the river and an alert has been issued in the village adjacent to the river. The Water Resources Department has expressed the possibility of increasing the water level of the river further.
Suresh Pandey, Executive Engineer Water Resources Department said that after the excessive rainfall in the district, flood-like situation has arisen after continuous release of 62,000 cusecs of water from catchment area and three barrages in Sheonath River. The water level in the river is likely to rise further.
Pandey informed that the water level of the river is increasing continuously after heavy rains.
In the three adjoining barrages, 45,000 cusecs of water is being released from Mogra reservoir, 4,500 cusecs from Ghumaria reservoir and 12,500 cusecs from Sukha Nullah. Due to which the water level of the river is continuously increasing. The river is flowing 2 meters above the danger mark.
