Indian Railways postpones closure of Supela railway-level crossing

CLOSURE of Supela, Bhilai railway-level crossing for facilitating railway under-bridge (RUB) construction in the location has been postponed in view of public inconvenience with inundation of the underpasses in the close vicinity with persisting heavy downpours nowadays.
In the late developments on Friday, railway authorities postponed the closure of the railway-level crossing after the district administration officials approached them and discussed the issue.
According to the information on Friday morning, traffic police officials and the officials from railway’s contractual firm awarded RUB construction contract near Supela railway crossing inspected the construction site with the
decision of the closure of railway level crossing from August 16 morning for facilitating RUB construction. The traffic officials also told the media persons about the closure of railway level crossing and about alternative roads for road traffic through Maurya Chandra talkies, Bhilai and Priyadarshani Parisar, Supela, Bhilai RUBs. As per information in view public inconvenience with persisting heavy downpours nowadays and inundation of the RUBs the officials from the district administration insisted the railway authorities for postponement of the closure of the railway level crossing in the mid rainy season. With considering the district administration officials stand in the matter the railway authorities opted for postponement of closure of the railway level crossing. It may be recalled that recently five RUBs from Bhilai-3 to Bhilai were inundated with heavy rainfall and traffic pressure was considerably increased at Supela, Bhilai railway level crossing. The closure of barriers of the crossing was next to impossible for passing of trains with constant vehicular traffic and ultimately Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Supela police officials and personnel were deployed for smooth passing of train traffic and road traffic through the railway level crossing. Dr Vipin Vaishnav, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Senior DCM), Raipur Division of South Easter Central Railway (SECR) informed that with considering the plea of the district administration officials in the matter the railway division decided to postpone the closure of the railway level crossing. He also informed about the delay in construction of RUB with procrastination of forest clearance for chopping of trees in the location for facilitating RUB construction.
