Two youths who had reached for fishing in the Kaliasot River on Friday morning got stranded as the water-level of the river rose and were rescued in an operation that continued for about 45 minutes.
The youths have been identified as Budhram Banjare and Rajkumar Yadav. They live in Dussehra ground Banjari Kolar and were fishing in Kaliasot River in the morning. Fire Officer Pankaj Khare told ‘The Hitavada’ that at 10:15 am, both the youths were fishing in the river in front of the gate of the dam, when the flow intensified and water-level rose, they got stuck at one place. On receiving the information, he immediately reached the spot with the team and did the rescue. Both the youths were pulled out outside, and the rescue operation lasted about 45 minutes. During this, the youth kept pleading to save their life by sitting on an island.
A day before this, another young man was rescued and saved. Team of 20 employees in searching: To rescue the youth, a team of about 20 employees of the Kolar Fire Office of the municipal corporation was engaged. The youths were pulled out with the help of ropes. Fire Officer Khare said the dam and river banks are being constantly monitored. The team has been deployed. The water level of Upper Lake rises, gates had to be opened: It has been raining continuously in the catchment area of Upper Lake. Due to this, the water-level of the Upper Lake has risen. Due to this, the gates of Bhadbhada and Kaliasot Dam had to be opened. Late in the night, one gate was opened. The second gate of Kaliasot Dam was also opened on Friday morning. At present, all the gates of Kolar and Kerwa Dam are said to be closed.
