BJP senior leaders on Monday lambasted the Congress Government over the amendment in Cooperative Society Amendment Bill passed in the Vidhan Sabha recently.
BJP Leaders alleged the bill, once ratified, will snatch the right of holding elections to cooperative societies.
BJP MLA Brijmohan Agrawal said with the new amendment, the State Government has the right to suspend Cooperative elections for an indefinite period. Earlier, it was mandatory to hold elections every six months for cooperative societies and twelve months of cooperative banks after the appointment of a registrar in special conditions when it isn’t possible to hold election. Agrawal said the new provision mandates that unless 75 per cent society elections are done, you can’t hold an election for the Board. We have seen cooperative movements bring positive changes in the life of farmers in other states. Agrawal claimed that elections for cooperative societies and cooperative banks will not be held until there is a Congress Government. Brijmohan Agrawal also alleged that the State Government forgot to organize official Independence Day functions in five new districts formed recently. The State Government needs to clarify whether the new districts are created or not and if they’re created so how can they forget to organize the most important National festival there? Agrawal also said that the members nominated in the board are not even members of the cooperative societies. They had no eligibility for the nomination. BJP has requested the Governor not ratify the bill. Speaking on the occasion, MLA Ajay Chandrakar said the Modi Government wants to reserve some sectors for the cooperative societies. But, the Congress Government’s only objective behind the amendment is to kill democracy. The amendments are made to benefit only Congress party supporters. Congress has lost the courage to fight direct election, so they’re nominating cooperative board office-bearers from the backdoor. The condition is so grave that no one can tell whether the cooperative will last or not in Chhattisgarh.
