Heavy rains leave behind water-logged areas, inundated lanes

rains that started battering the State capital from Saturday night continued on Sunday as well. Water-logging has been witnessed in many areas. Gates of Kaliasot, Bhadbhada and Kerwa dams have been opened again in Bhopal.
By 3:30 pm, 7 out of 13 gates of Kaliasot Dam, 5 out of 11 gates of Bhadbhada Dam and 5 out of eight gates of Kerwa Dam were opened. Rest of the gates are expected to be opened by late evening. The district administration has issued an alert on the dam-river banks. People have been advised not to go near water bodies. It rained with strong winds on Saturday night.
Due to this there was power outage in many areas. Power in all the areas of Kolar D Sector Amarnath Colony is disrupted since night till Sunday morning. Bhopal has received more than 53 inches of rainfall so far. About 2 inches of water has been received in 24 hours. So far last year, there was about 23 inches of rain.
Monsoon has become active again after four days of relief. Most of the areas of Kolar have submerged. Water is flowing up to one foot from the roads of Lalita Nagar, Nayapura. There is water-logging on main road. Many streets of Mandakini have inundated. The situation is similar in Ashoka Garden, Chola, Hamidia Road, Karond, Shivnagar, Bagh Mughalia, Baghsewania, Bawadiya Kalan, Anand Nagar, Indrapuri, Subhash Nagar, Banganga, Bairagad, Neelbad, Ratibad etc.
Rainwater gushes inside homes, adds to people’s woes:
People could not sleep at night due to water-logging in low-lying areas of Karond located in Ward-78. From Sunday morning, rain water started pouring inside houses. Roads have also become waterlogged after it started raining. In Hamidia Road, Banganga, Tulsi Nagar, Lalita Nagar, Shiv Nagar, Bairagarh etc roads are flooded up. Due to this people are facing difficulty in commuting.
Danger increased again in Damkheda-Samardha Tola
Low-lying areas of Damkheda and Samardha Tola are again at risk of flooding due to opening of Kaliasot dam gates and fast flowing water in the river. In the past, 70 families were shifted to safer places at both the places. If level of Kaliasot river rises, then situation can become serious again. Fire Officer Pankaj Khare said, “After rains, low-lying areas are being monitored. Bhopal Municipal Corporation employees are deployed in Damkheda.
All the gates of Bhadbhada and Kaliasot dams have been opened twice after Upper Lake, lifeline of Bhopal, got filled up to brim. At the same time, eight gates of Kerwa Dam were opened after a few days of heavy rain.
About half the gates are still open. In such a situation, there is a possibility that all the gates of Kaliasot-Bhadbhada and all the gates of Kerwa Dam will open for second time. Due to this, people living on banks of river and dam have been alerted. They are forbidden to go into the water.
