Police had to use moderate force to stop the huge crowd of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) members from heading towards Chief Minister’s House.
Several BJP leaders and workers also courted arrest during the protest. BJYM workers started their march to gherao Chief Minister’s House from RMC Headquarters. They broke through barricades at Mahila Thana Chowk and OCM Chowk within half an hour. In this scuffling, several police personnel sustained injuries and some even had fractured bones. Over 450 BJP and BJYM members were arrested and taken to the Central Jail. Large contingent of police personnel was positioned at all routes leading to Chief Minister’s House.
Police had put up barricades at 3 spots. The BJYM and BJP workers had broken barricades and engaged in scuffling with the police personnel at several places. Many BJP workers and leaders also sustained injuries inbaton charge by police personnel at several places. BJP worker Shashikant Sahu of Lakhenagar sustained fracture in left leg, Pukhraj Jain of Bhilai-3 sustained injuries in right hand. BJP leaders Ashok Bajaj, Charoda Bhilai mandal president Dilip Patel, Corporator Kamal Sahu, Corporator Rakesh Yadu, Corporator Hemlata Chandrakar and Vinay Sahu were admitted to Yashwant Hospital for the injuries they sustained during scuffle with police
