Former CM and PCC chief Kamal Nath has raised questions on the investigation in Karam Dam leakage in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh.
In a series of four tweets, he made on Friday, Nath has asked the Shivraj-led MP Government the whereabouts of the investigation report of Karam Dam, which the Government had claimed to finish within five days. Kamal Nath has also inspected Karam Dam. Along with this, many Congress leaders including former CM Digvijay Singh, Leader of Opposition Dr Govind Singh have questioned the Shivraj government on the pretext of dam. The Government had formed an inquiry committee. Kamal Nath has raised questions on this committee. In his tweets, the former CM wrote- “15 days have passed since the Karam Dam of Dhar district got damaged in Madhya Pradesh, but till now no action has been taken against any of the guilty...? The Shivraj government had made a four-member inquiry committee and claimed to take action after investigating it in five days, but 11 days have passed. Where is the investigation report? It is not known yet and no action has been taken yet.
It is very shameful that Rs 304 crore were wasted in the name of construction of this dam and now to save the responsible culprits, it is being termed as a ‘pond’. Congress will not sit silent on this corruption.
Our struggle will continue till the culprits are not punished.”
Leakage started in the dam, then the wall had to be broken: A dam is being constructed on the Karam River in Kothida village at a cost of Rs 304 crore. This dam was almost ready. The news of leakage in the dam came on August 10. After that there was a stir. The administration directed the evacuation of 12 villages of Dhar district and 6 villages of Khargone district. On August 14, a side wall of the dam was broken, the water slowly making its way, causing a large part of the wall to collapse. The water of the dam went through the Karam River and got mixed in the Narmada. During this there was damage in some villages.
The foundation stone of the dam was laid 4 years ago. Four years ago, the then in-charge minister of the district Antar Singh Arya had laid the foundation stone and performed Bhoomipujan of Karam Medium Irrigation Project in Kothida village.
The construction of the dam was done by ANS Construction Private Limited, a Delhi-based company. However, while taking action, the Government has blacklisted ANS Construction and Sarathi Construction. Along with this, notices have also been sent to both the companies.
