BMC Commissioner KVS Chaudhary Kolsani, on Sunday, suspended Ward 23 In-charge Ehsan Zaidi and regulated employee Sudhir Gurjar with immediate effect, while instructed to deduct salaries of five employees, including Savita Batham and Mohd Naved for negligence in distributing property tax bills.
These employees had put fake mobile numbers in the register without distributing property tax bills, while five of these did not even reach the receipient. In such a situation, when the BMC Commissioner investigated, negligence of employees came to fore.
According to Lok Adalat, from August 20 to August 31, BMC has given exemption in surcharge to pay outstanding bills of property tax, water tax and solid waste for last financial year. For this, the ward and zone offices of the corporation are being opened even during holidays. On Sunday, BMC Commissioner did a surprise inspection of these offices to know the reality of revenue collection. During this, he took information related to the distribution of outstanding bills in the ward and zone offices and checked the registers.
During this, when he saw the property tax distribution register in ward 23, information about distribution of more than 550 bills was mentioned in it. The ward employees had also got mobile numbers and signatures from consumers in these. When the BMC Commissioner called these numbers, people told him that the bill did not reach their house, also they told the BMC Commissioner that the mobile numbers written in the register were not theirs. Angered by this fraud, the BMC Commissioner suspended ward 23 In-charge Ehsan Zaidi and regulated employee Sudhir Gurjar with immediate effect, while instructed to deduct the salary of five employees, including Savita Batham and Mohd Naved.
1,380 bills were to be distributed among employees: Significantly, the BMC Commissioner is strict about recovery of property tax. He has got separate registers printed for this. In this, name of the consumer along with his ID, mobile number and signature columns have been given. But in Ward 23, many flaws were found in the register. Ward employees were to distribute 1,380 bills. Of these, distribution figures of only 550 bills were recorded in register. But mobile number and signature in it were found to be fake.
