Devendra Boys’ Hostel of Rani Durgavati University (RDU) is once again on the limelight for all the wrong reasons. The Anti-Ragging Committee of University Grants Commission (UGC) received a complaint regarding juniors being ragged during midnight at the hostel.
According to the complaint, a first year students was forced to march around naked in the hostel by his seniors when he refused to follow their instructions. The victim also suffered cigarette burn marks on his skin.
The UGC has dispatched a letter to the University administration and Superintendent of Police to conduct proper investigation on the complaint in which the student had to face physical and mental torture and instructed to take stringent action against the guilty. But the University administration has kept silence on the issue and still not initiated any action on the UGC letter.
As per sources, one the students of B.A.Mc. First year sent a complaint at the UGC's Anti-Ragging Helpline complaining against four seniors who use to abuse him mentally and physically. Crossing their limits, these seniors pressurized the student to consume liquor and smoke cigarette and when he refused to do so, they forced him to march around naked in the hostel. They also burnt him with cigarettes, forced him to take bath with cold water during midnight and tied him with a chair the entire night.
Taking serious note on the complaint, the UGC's Anti-Ragging Committee instructed the Superintendent of Police, Jabalpur, Vice-chancellor, Rani Durgavati University and RDU Anti Ragging Committee to conduct point-wise inquiry on the complaint.
Meanwhile, the senior hostellers have started targeting Vice-chancellor, Dr. Mishra and other officers of the University to create pressure on the University administration not to conduct any inquiry against them.
