City’s Krisha to play top seed in final today

UPCOMING city shuttler Krisha Soni entered final of the Under-17 girls singles event of Sub Junior U-15 & U-17 State Selection Tournament under way in Pune, on Sunday.
The tourney is being organised by Maharashtra Badminton Association.
Krisha beat Yutika Chavan of Pune 21-18, 21-16 in straight games in the semi-final to book a place for the final to be played on Monday. Krisha had to seat it out in the quartet-final against Mumbai Sub-Urban’s Siya Singh before prevailing 13-21, 21-11, 21-14. Krisha will lock horns with top seed Shravani Walekar of Nashik in final.
Another city player Kunjal Mandlik also played well but was beaten by third seed Taarini Suri of Greater Mumbai 21-17, 21-11 in the pre-quarters.
In the U-17 boys singles, Ameya Naktode’s brilliant run was halted by fourth seed Pune’s Yashwant Salokhe. Ameya lost the pre-quarter match in three tough games 15-21, 24-22, 23-21.
In the U-15 boys singles, Nagpur’s Rigved Nimkar went down fighting to third seed Parth Lohakare of Nashik 21-11, 15-21, 21-18, also in the pre-quarterfinal while Rudraksh Thaokar lost to Greater Mumbai’s Harshit Mahimkar 21-15, 21-8. Pinak Rokde of Nagpur reached semi-finals in mixed doubles with Mumbai Sub-Urban partner Soham Pathak winning against their Pune opponents 21-19, 21-16 in straight games.
