Jagat Bahadur Singh ‘Annu’ took the oath of 21th Mayor of the city in a glittering yet neat oath-taking ceremony organised at Veterinary College Ground, on Sunday. Annu along with 34 newly-elected Congress and Independent Corporators took the oath in the presence of MPCC President and former Chief Minister Kamal Nath, senior Congress leaders, religious heads, eminent person of various sections of the society and a host of citizens.
Two newly-elected Corporators of AIMIM also took the oath and they raised slogans ‘AIMIM Zindabad, Asaduddin Owaisi Zindabad’ giving surprise to everyone present on the occasion. However, the programme was conducted smoothly thereafter. Collector, Illaiyaraja T administered the oath of office to Mayor and Corporators.
The MPCC Chief started the ceremony by lighting lamp along with other leaders and religious gurus. Thereafter, senior party leaders welcomed Kamal Nath and Congress MLAs. Later, the Collector administered the oath to the Mayor and Corporators.
Addressing a huge gathering of citizens, PCC Chief Kamal Nath thanked Jabalpurians for electing Annu as new the Mayor. He said, “I have an old relation with Jabalpur. Most of the people who are present in the programme were not even born at that time, since then I have been visiting Jabalpur. I am very fond of the city, that’s why I handed over the key of the vault to Finance Minister Tarun Bhanot as soon as the Congress Government was formed”.
He said in 2018 his Government held the first cabinet meeting in Jabalpur. In which development works worth Rs 3,000 were approved. “But the present Government stopped all those works. But as soon as Congress Government will come to power again in the State, all such development works will be started again,” added Nath.
Nath said, “India is a country of spiritual power. Throwing light on the country’s unity, integrity and sovereignty, he said people of many castes, classes, communities and religions live in our country and today I am seeing them on the stage. In our midst, corporators from different communities have been elected to serve the society before taking the constitutional oath.” He congratulated and extended best wishes to all the Corporators along with Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh. He advised everyone to work in the interest of the city by coordinating with each other.
Thereafter, Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh expressed views on the occasion. He said, “I will leave no stone unturned for the development of Jabalpur. I am sad that all the newly-elected corporators are not taking oath today. I know that this is their compulsion, but together we will take forward the story of development of Jabalpur.” He said he will fulfill his promise of signing the file ensuring stoppage of release of drain water into river Narmada within first hour of his oath-taking ceremony.
Those present on the occasion were Swami Subudhanand Ji Maharaj, Jagatguru Raghav Devacharya Ji Maharaj, Swami Girishanand Ji Maharaj, Swami Mukunddas Ji Maharaj, Swami Ramdas Ji Maharaj, Swami Chaitanyanand Ji Maharaj, Mufti-e-Azam Madhya Pradesh Hazrat Maulana Mohammad Hamid Ahmed Siddiqui, Bishop Gerald Almeida, Chief Granthi Sardar Harjit Singh, Swami Vibhanand ji, former Speaker of the Assembly N P Prajapati, MLA, Tarun Bhanot, Lakhan Ghanghoria, Vinay Saxena, Former Minister Omkar Markam and others. Superintendent of Police Siddhartha Bahuguna, Municipal Commissioner Ashish Vashistht, along with other administrative officers were also present.
