CLOUDBURSTS struck at least two villages in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district, killing a 15-year-old boy and prompting evacuation of some houses, officials said Monday.
The Chamba District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC) said Bhadoga and Kandhwara villages were hit by sudden heavy rains in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. At Bhadoga, Vijay Kumar (15) died and two other people sustained injuries, the state disaster management department said.
At Kandhwara, a PWD bridge over Shalei Kandhwara nullah and agricultural land were damaged, they said.
Heavy rains in Sindhudurg, other parts of south Konkan: THE South-West monsoon has become active over Maharashtra again after a gap of two weeks, this time bringing extremely heavy showers to south Konkan region, the India Meteorological Department said on Monday. The State’s coastal districts, mainly Sindhudurg and parts of Ratnagiri, received more than 200 mm rainfall in the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am on Monday, as per the IMD data. Many villages and hamlets in Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri have become inaccessible because of the connecting roads getting inundated, according to locals.
Central teams to tour flood-hit distts of Andhra: TWO inter-ministerial teams of the Central Government will on Wednesday and Thursday tour Alluri Sitarama Raju, Eluru, and B R Ambedkar Konaseema districts of Andhra Pradesh to assess the flood-related damage. The districts were recently hit by the flood in river Godavari.
73 die due to flood: Karnataka Minister: AS MANY as 73 people lost their lives while 7,386 people have taken shelter in 75 relief camps in Karnataka due to floods and rain-related incidents during the ongoing monsoon, State Revenue Minister R Ashoka said on Monday. The Minister said 161 villages in 14 districts were badly hit by the heavy rains and floods affected 21,727 people in recent days.
