The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) corporators took oath of office on Monday in presence of a number of religious gurus, public representatives, citizens and Minister Incharge of the district, Gopal Bhargava during the swearing-in ceremony organised at Jabalpur Municipal Corporation (JMC) headquarters. Mayor, Jagat Bhadur Singh ‘Annu’ and Congress MLAs were also present on the occasion.
District Collector Dr. Illaiyaraja T administered the oath to 44 BJP corporators and one Independent corporator.
Addressing the grand ceremony, Minister In-charge Bhargava said, “I believe the election of corporators and Sarpanchs is the most difficult, and I assume that whoever becomes a corporator once, becomes eligible to take the place alike him.” Bhargava said he himself had come from the urban body 42 years back”.
Bhargava started the ceremony by lighting the lamp. Thereafter, he performed worship of little girls amid chanting of Vedic Mantras and Swativachan by child priests of the Sanskrit School of JMC. Religious gurus adorned the grand stage of swearing-in ceremony. A number of saints including Swami Akhileshwarananda, Swami Girishananda, Mukunddas Maharaj, Pagalanand Maharaj, Chaitanyanand Maharaj were present on the occasion. The newly elected BJP Corporators welcomed the saints.
At the beginning of the ceremony, 9 Corporators including Rinku Vij, Kamlesh Agarwal, Jitu Katare, Lovleen Anand, Sushil Goswami, Pooja Patel, Priya Tiwari etc. took oath in Sanskrit. The Corporators were very enthusiastic to take the oath. A large number of BJP leaders, workers and relatives of Corporators joined the oath taking ceremony.
The corporators took oath in the set of 9 each. Collector Illaiyaraja T administered the oath of office to all.
Later, expressing views on the occasion, Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh said now nobody belongs to the BJP or Congress, all become one family. Annu said all 79 corporators have to work together to develop the city. In the coming times, we all will have to work together to ensure that even single drop of water from the drains does not get into river Narmada.
Annu said in elections every corporator made promises to the people. Now is the time to fulfill the promises and for the same everyone needs to get united. He said mutual unity is necessary to strengthen the democracy.
Addressing the programme, Member of Parliament, Rakesh Singh assured the Mayor that the Central Government and the State Government will extend all needed support in the development of Jabalpur. He said no hindrance will be allowed in the development of the city. Those present included MLA Ashok Rohani, MLA Tarun Bhanot, MLAs Vinay Saxena, former Mayor Sadanand Godbole, Dr Swati Godbole, Municipal Commissioner Ashish Vashisht and others.
