India’s Gold medal winner in weightlifting (73 kg category) at the Commonwealth Games 2022 at Birmingham, Havildar Achinta Sheuli returned to his Alma Mater, 1 Signal Training Centre at Jabalpur on Monday and was accorded a hero’s welcome. He was felicitated by Lieutenant General MK Das, PVSM, SM, VSM, GOC MB Area and Brigadier Rahul Mallik, Commandant 1 Signal Training Centre in presence of other senior army officials and school children at 1 STC.
Born on November 24, 2001 at Deulpur, Howrah near Kolkata, Havildar Achinta Sheuli hails from a modest family and was enrolled in the Corps of Signals through Khelo India initiative launched by the Government in 2018.
During his initial basic training, Sheuli continued his passion for sport and parallelly continued his sports training. He participated in a number of national and international events clinching medals and making a mark for himself in the sport discipline. After being selected for representing India in weightlifting at the Commonwealth Games 2022 at Birmingham, England, Achinta commenced with his rigorous preparations which included training and acclimatization at Birmingham itself. On July 31, 2022,
Achinta Sheuli made Corps of Signals, Indian Army and the country proud by clinching the Gold medal in weightlifting in the 73 kg weight category by lifting a total of 313 kgs in the competition thereby also setting a games record in the sport.
On his return from the competition, Sheuli was honored by the GOC MB Area and Commandant, 1 STC in an impressive ceremony at 1 STC, Jabalpur. The GOC emphasized on the importance of hard work, grit and determination which drove Achinta to achieve this enormous feat.
GOC specially addressed the young children on the aspect of hard work and sacrifice required to materialize dreams to reality and cited the example of Achinta in this regard. Achinta also interacted with his fellow team members of the Army Weightlifting Node and shared his experiences of training and of the competition. He also interacted and motivated young budding children of various schools who also attended the ceremony.
An inspiration to every aspiring sportsman in the country, Achinta has emphasized the fact that you can achieve that what you aspire and will go on to become and inspiration of millions of young Indians who are aspiring and working hard to make a mark for themselves in the sport.
