Jabalpurians have still not recovered from the painful memories of the major fire incident at New Life Multi-Specialty Hospital and claimed eight innocent lives, when another fire broke out outside the Paediatric Department at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College and Hospital (NSCBMCH), on Monday. However no casualties have been reported, but it became a cause of concern for the district administration as despite making all efforts such incidents are reported at regular intervals from different hospitals in the city.
Justa few days back, the electricity board installed in front of Paediatric Department, NSCBMCH, caught fire destroying the board and cables. There was an oxygen plant close to the incident spot, had the fire reached this plant, the result could be horrible. However, the fire was immediately controlled before it could take on a major form. But
the medical administration did not paid any attention towards the incident.
It seemed that the medical administration has not learnt any lesson from the fire incident that occurred at New Life Multi-specialty Hospital and continued to adopt the same careless attitude. Once again, fire triggered at the same location either because of short-circuit or default in the air-condition installed at the pediatric ward. It was a case of sheer negligence that the fire broke out for the second time within a week.
According to the eye-witnesses, the fire broke out outside Pediatric Department, fortunately, the fire did not reach inside the Pediatric ward where around 40 little patients were admitted. Thanks to the UDC Security Company staff who promptly came into action and using fire extinguishers, controlled the fire putting their lives in risk.
Apart from patients, medical staff and doctors were present at the time. Even the security staff of the hospital immediately evacuated all the patients with no casualties. Receiving
Immediately after receiving information, Divisional Commissioner, B Chandrashekhar, Collector, Dr. Ilaiyaraja and Superintendent of Police, Siddharth Bahuguna reached the spot and took stock of the incident.
