Indian Army engineers of Sudarshan Chakra Corps of Southern Command on Wednesday completed the construction of Bailey Bridge over Sukhtawa River in Narmadapuram district of Madhya Pradesh in a record time of six days. Bridge was handed over to civil administration by the GOC, PMP Sub Area. Civil dignitaries including MLA Prem Shankar Verma, DM Neeraj Kumar, SDM Madan Raghuvanshi, R K Gupta NHAI Project Director Akhil Soni NHAI Manager and others have also attended the ceremony. The work of bridge construction had started on August 26. Completion of this bridge has been a perfect example of seamless and synergised civil military response to national emergencies. Construction of this Bailey Bridge has ensured day and night connectivity and restoration of vital economic activity over Nagpur-Bhopal corridor on NH 46 in Madhya Pradesh. More than that, it has brought succor to the people of Narmadapuram district, whose daily lives were much affected as they were regularly cut off due to heavy monsoon. This Bailey Bridge is 3.5m wide and 90 feet long.
Single lane Bailey Bridge which is capable of sustaining heavy traffic. This is the first time that in Madhya Pradesh the Indian Army has made a bridge of this specification which is an achievement in itself. The construction of this bridge posed many challenges including adverse weather conditions, time and the bridge site itself. However Southern Command ensured timely construction of the Bailey Bridge and restored connectivity in record time of six days. NHAI and Civil Administration provided all kinds of support during the planning and construction phase.
