The Human Rights Commission has sought reply from the Collector and ACP in connection with the Bhopal Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) action of demolishing a house of a man who assaulted the BMC official.
On August 27, Kanija Bi’s house in Banganga area was demolished by the BMC saying it was encroachment. During this there was a lot of chaos. Amidst the uproar, there was a fierce exchange of arguments between Leader of Opposition Shabista Zaki and encroachment incharge Qamar Shakib. Both had levelled allegations against each other. However, action was taken under the shadow of the police and the encroachment was broken. Taking cognizance of this matter, the Human Rights Commission has issued notices. Kanija Bi, along with the Congressmen, had filed a complaint with the Chairman of Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission Justice Narendra Kumar Jain and requested the commission to take action against the officer concerned and get compensation. Thereafter, the commission took the matter into consideration. In the matter, the Chairman of the Commission, Jain has sought a reply from Bhopal Collector, Additional Commissioner of Police (Urban) and Municipal Commissioner by September 9. Notably, on August 20, the BMC team had reached New Market to remove the encroachment. Meanwhile, Altaf, Aijaz, Manoj Lodhi and others started hurling abuses at him. When the in-charge Shakib stopped, he was threatened, kicked and punched. Meanwhile, some other employees were also beaten up by the encroachers. Several employees including Shakib were injured in this commotion. Altaf and others were arrested by TT Nagar police in the case. After this, on August 27, action was taken to demolish Altaf’s house.
In this matter, encroachment incharge Shakib said that the building permission branch had issued a notice due to the encroachment of the house. After that this action was taken. “It has nothing to do with the New Market case,” he added. Congress also opposed: Congressmen have also protested in this matter, saying the action was not justified. MLA P C Sharma and BMC Leader of Opposition Shabista Zaki also opposed the action.
