A record for highest rainfall witnessed in the State capital in the past 50 years has been set for 2022. Bhopal has received a record 72 inches of rain since June 1. This is about 42 inches more than the normal 31 inches. Only half of the September is remaining, in such a situation, this figure can increase further.
Due to the Upper Lake, and more greenery in Bhopal city, it rains more in urban areas than in rural areas.
In the year 2021, the city received the maximum 40 inches of rain, while this year the figure has crossed 72 inches. There is a system to measure rain at 5 places including Bhopal city. Apart from this, rainfall is recorded in Nabibagh, Bairagarh, Kolar and Berasia. The first system was installed in Bairagarh. Bhopal has also remained number one in terms of average rainfall from the surrounding areas for nearly 50 years.
According to the Meteorological Department, the reason for this distribution of rain is the geographical location and the monsoon rain pattern. Along with this, there is more rainfall in such areas, where there are big ponds and big rivers. It makes up the local system. In such a situation, many times it rains in these areas due to the lack of a strong system. This is the reason why Bhopal city and Bairagarh and Berasia receive more rainfall. The area of Nabibagh is land-locked from all sides, that is, there is no water body around it. It is necessary to form a strong monsoon system for rain in this area. This year it rained continuously around Bhopal. During the monsoon transition period from June to July, there was local activity, that is, before the onset of monsoon, there was light rain. Nabibagh also received rain due to favourable conditions. After the city, Nabibagh had the highest rainfall. In Bhopal district, the first rain system was installed in Bairagarh. It is the main centre of Bhopal district. The rain falling is considered as the rain in Bhopal. After this systems were installed in Bhopal city, Berasia, Kolar and Nabibagh.
The heaviest rain in the city so far: This year, according to the rainfall record of monsoon season (July till date), Bairagarh received the highest rainfall of 72 inches. After this, 68 inches of rain has been recorded in Nabibagh. The city’s rain is at number three. It has rained 65 inches so far. This was followed by 60 inches of rain in Kolar. The lowest rain so far this year, Berasia has received only 55 inches of rain.
