EVEN before the dust raised by the horrific accident on Sakkardara flyover could settle, a similar mishap occurred on Shahid Gowari flyover on Saturday resulting in death of a woman who was thrown off the flyover after being hit by a speeding car driving on the wrong side. The woman, riding pillion on her husband’s bike, was smashed to death after she fell on Wardha Road in front of Shakti Press from a height of about 60-70 feet. Her husband, who suffered serious injuries, has been admitted to Mayo Hospital. Identified as Anita Roosevelt Dilpe (30), the deceased was a resident of Jaywant Nagar, Manewada Chowk. Her husband Roosevelt (32) is a native of Circle Line, Pulgaon, district Wardha. The couple was coming towards Zero Mile from Rahate Colony Square on a motorcycle (MH-32/AM-2267) at around 7 pm. A speeding Maruti Baleno car (MH-30/AT-1668) coming from opposite direction hit the motorcycle from the wrong side. The impact of the collision was so intense that Anita was flung in the air and fell off the flyover from a height of about 60-70 ft. She was killed instantaneously.

Roosevelt’s right leg and right hand were fractured. Sitabuldi Police arrested car driver Abhilash Avinash Manatkar (29), a native of Hiwarkhed, Telhara Road, Akola and seized his car. His fiancee Vaishnavi, who is the daughter of Head Constable Subhash Lande, attached to Traffic Branch (Lakadganj Zone), was sitting next to him in the car when the tragedy occurred. Abhilash works in New Zealand. The accident comes close on heels of the September 9 mishap in which four members of a family were killed and four others were injured seriously after being hit by a rashly-driven SUV on Sakkardara flyover. The reckless driving by SU driver had claimed the lives Vinod Khapekar (45), his mother Laxmibai Khapekar (65) and his sons Vedant (11) and Vivan (5) who were returning home after Ganesh Visarjan.
