Expressing surprise over changes being made in the Prabhag system of civic polls, Founder President of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Raj Thackeray questioned the role of Election Commission of India. On Monday, while talking to mediapersons at Ravi Bhavan, Thackeray asked, “How could the Election Commission allow such sensless changes taking place? Since long, there was ward system. Then Prabhag system was introduced. It became four prabhags then Mahavikas Aaghadi (MVA) reduced it to three prabhag system. Now, this Government is planning to make it to four again. This is something like child’s play. I think Election Commission must intervene and resolve the issue.”
“In Prabhag system we can’t fix the responsibility on corporators as areas are not bifurcated into four. We should go back to Ward system where every single common man is aware of corporator and his/her ward,” explained Thackeray.
To a question whether he would go with winning instinct to civic polls, Thackeray said, “We will not only win but our number will be increased. We are chalking out our poll strategy. We want MNS everywhere. Party will go solo and field its own candidates who will give tough fight to their opponents.”
To a question regarding the alliance of three parties in 2019, Raj Thackeray questioned the decision of his own cousin Uddhav Thackeray to demand Chief Ministerial post for Shiv Sena. “In Bharatiya Janata Party-Shiv Sena equation it was already decided that party having more elected members would get post of Chief Minister. Same formula was applied during 1995-99 when Sena had more seats than the BJP had. In 2019 it was BJP who had more seats so it was its claim for CM post,” Raj Thackeray made it clear.
Raj Thackeray called the present political chaos in Maharashtra as disgusting. “I have never seen such mess, cheating in State politics. The situation is confusing and nobody knows who is whose ally and who is the real party.”
Sandip Deshpande, Arvind Jadhav and other MNS office-bearers accompanied Raj Thackeray.
