THE Punjab Governor’s Office has sought details of the legislative business to be taken up in the Assembly session on September 27, drawing a sharp reaction from Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann who said “it’s too much”.
After earlier being stopped by the Governor from holding a special sitting of the Assembly on September 22 to seek a confidence vote, the Punjab’s AAP Government had on Thursday decided to summon a session on September 27. The Government also said it will approach the Supreme Court over the Raj Bhawan move.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had said issues like stubble burning and electricity supply will be discussed in the September 27 session.
However, Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit’s office in a letter to the secretary, Punjab Vidhan Sabha, sought details of the legislative business to be taken up in the proposed session on September 27, according to a press release issued by the Punjab Raj Bhawan. Reacting to it, Mann in his tweet added that a Governor or President’s assent before any session of the legislature is a “formality”. In 75 years, no President or Governor asked the list of legislative business before calling a session, he said.
