Dr Vipin Itankar, District Collector, has directed the Police Department, Revenue Department, and Mining Section officers to put in place 42 check-posts in Nagpur district to curb illegal transport of sand and to initiate action against anti-social elements engaged in such illegal practices.
Dr Itankar issued these directions in a meeting. He also asked the officials of these agencies as well as Sarpanch of various villages to be vigilant in this regard and help the administration in acting against elements harming the environment and ecology by way of exploitation of water resources and minor minerals. For the purpose, he suggested deployment of Sub-Divisional Officers, Tehsildars, Block Development Officers to ensure co-ordination among different agencies concerned.
The officials were asked to appoint employees at check-post, keep watch through closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras, use drone cameras, hold meetings at tehsil-level and at important villages. Police Department was asked to inform the Police Station Officers in the district regarding the action to be taken against illegal transport of sand.
The district administration proposes to have 42 check-posts in the district. Of these
tehsil-wise distribution of 40 proposed check-posts is as follows: Saoner -- 08, Kamptee -- 06, Parseoni and Kuhi -- 04 each; Nagpur Rural, Kameshwar, Ramtek, and Hingna -- 03 each; Mouda and Narkhed -- 02 each; Umred and Bhiwapur -- 01 each. Vijay Magar, Superintendent of Police; Vijaya Bankar, Resident Deputy Collector; Janardan Bhanuse, Executive Engineer of Public Works Department; Ramesh Bende, District Supply Officer; Shriram Kadu, officiating District Mining Officer, were present in the meeting. All the Sub-Divisional Officers, Tehsildars, and Block Development Officers attended the meeting online.
