A STUDENT of Government College of Engineering, New Khapri, was killed and four of his classmates were injured, two of them seriously, after the speeding Maruti Celerio car they were travelling in skidded off near Chichbhuvan in Beltarodi Police Station area on Wardha Road Friday afternoon.
The uncontrolled car somersaulted twice and toppled into a field killing Gaurav Raghurte on the spot and injuring Devesh Nighot, Vedant Udapure, Tanmay Mentangale and Aman Yadav. A resident of Kamptee, deceased Gaurav (19) was a first year student. Gaurav, Devesh, Vedant, Tanmay and Aman were coming towards the city from their college at Sector 27, MIHAN Rehabilitation Colony, New Khapri, in a Maruti Suzuki Celerio car (MH-49/AS-3603) around 1.30 pm. The car was at a high speed. Suddenly, the driver lost control of the vehicle and it skidded off the road after hitting the divider. The car somersaulted twice and landed in the adjacent field killing Gaurav in the vehicle itself. Local residents and
passers-by extricated the four injured students and rushed them to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at MIHAN. Condition of the two students was critical.
Staff from Beltarodi Police arrived at the spot and sent Gaurav’s body to Government Medical College & Hospital for post-mortem. Later, parents and relatives of injured Vedant and Tanmay shifted them to a Dhantoli-based private hospital.
