MeT Deptt issues 4-day yellow alert

WITH the high humidity level amidst overcast conditions, people faced the blunt of irritating conditions in Raipur on Saturday. Trace rainfall recorded at isolated place during the day made the conditions worse for denizens of the city.
However, people of the Twin Cities Durg and Bhilai had enough rainfall to get respite from the humid condition. The cities received 2.2mm rainfall along with cool breeze brought the conditions to normal.
Balrampur recorded highest of 70mm rainfall followed with Pendra Road 40mm, Kusmi and Pendra 30mm while Duldula, Pratappur, Baikunthpur, Patthalgaon, Kartala, Ramanujganj, Manora, Pakhanjur and Jashpur recorded 20mm and below 20mm rainfall was recorded at many places in the state on Saturday.
The state-wide district-wise seasonal rainfall from June 1 to September 3 has recorded an excess of 9mm rains with an average of 1046mm against the normal of 962.6mm. Though, Surguja has recovered from the alarming short showers, in the present status it is still 50 per cent deficient, highest by a district in the state, recording 511mm against the average normal of 1028.2mm till date this rainy season. In the daily district-wise rainfall report, Ambikapur received 0.4mm rainfall, Lakhanpur – 2.5mm, Sitapur – 6.1mm, Lundra – 4.5mm and Mainpat received 0.8mm while no rainfall was recorded at Udaipur in Surguja district on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the MeT Department has issued a four-day ‘Yellow Alert’ for State from September 4 to 7. During the first three-days of the yellow alert, thunderstorm is very likely at isolated places over State. Similarly, heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm is expected at isolated places over State on the fourth day, September 7. Besides scattered rainfall in the state on September 4, MeT Centre’s rainfall forecast has stated of fairly widespread rainfall from September 5 to 7. Though there is warning of four-day isolated rainfall, there will be no large change in the maximum temperature over the state for next five days, it further stated. In the state-wide forecast, thunderstorm along with light to medium rainfall is expected at one or two places in State on September 4. The sky will be partly cloudy and thunderstorm along with rainfall is expected at some parts of Raipur on Sunday.
