Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is all set for smooth conduct of immersion of Ganesh idols in and around the city after a gap of two years. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the Ganeshotsav celebration was muted due to a lot of restrictions. After lifting of all types of restrictions by State Government during festivals, the celebration is underway with full enthusiasm.
However, due to lack of availability of city lakes for immersion of big idols this year, the civic body, in association with District Collectorate and City Police, have made arrangements for immersion of idols of Ganesh mandals in 19 different spots outside the city. “We have received 634 applications of Ganesh mandals from the city this year, out of which, 437 have already got permission from the departments concerned. Among 634, 411 mandals have installed big idols or idols of above 4 ft height,” said a senior official of NMC.
Koradi lake will cater the highest 288 number of idol immersion on September 9. Along with this, immersion will also take place at Kolar river, Mauda river, Kanhan river, Kolar lake, Bina river, Chikna Dhamna river, Butibori lake, Dhamna lake, Kalamna canal, Kotewada Gumgaon, Mahadev Kamptee ghat, Hingna lake, Vihirgaon, Panchgaon, Ranala lake, Saatwa mile and Old Kamptee lake.
The civic body will allow immersion of 73 idols in Kolar river, 22 in Mauda river, 18 in Kanhan river, 12 in Kolar lake, 5 in Bina river, 4 in Chikna Dhamna river, 3 in Butibori lake and one each in Dhamna lake, Kalamna canal, Kotewada Gumgaon, Mahadev Kamptee ghat, Hingna lake, Vihirgaon, Panchgaon, Ranala lake, Saatwa Mile and Old Kamptee lake.
Remaining 198 idols below 4 ft height will be immersed in artificial tanks at different places.
Mangalwari Zone has the highest 113 Ganesh mandals this year in which 77 mandals installed idols of above 4 feet height. Similarly, Gandhibag Zone has the second highest 101 mandals in which 53 idols are of above 4 feet tall. Laxmi Nagar Zone has the second highest 67 number of idols above 4 feet height.
With the help of district administration, NMC is filling potholes on roads leading to the Visarjan sites.
The civic body is also providing cranes in all Visarjan venues for big idols. Cops will also be deployed in full force for smooth conduct of Visarjan and also to maintain smooth traffic movement during processions.
